We are all defined FIRST by our outward appearance theses days. The man walking down the street in a suit has a job, right? He is a lawyer, a CEO or someone of importance. The funny thing is, he could be unemployed, searching for a job that will keep in his family in their home.

Meet a veteran that we recently served at Career Gear. The only suit he had ever worn was his military issued dress blues. Pretty sharp all dressed up! You would not be able to tell him from a man who's office is at the top of city hall, right.

​Clothed in confidence, destined for success and feeling the part. Serving those who have severed us is an honor I welcome you to partake in with me.

Growing up, Pastors, lawyers and limo drivers wore suits. Knowing how to tie a tie or what size dress shirt to buy was just something that did not matter to me. There was no reason for me to know how to and really no desire to. 

In the fall of 2012, I decided that I was tired of coming home from work dirty everyday.  
I decided to pursue a career change and enrolled as a part time student. My field choice was education. I was driven by the desire to one day come home ready to take my family to a nice dinner and not have avoid greetings due to being covered in dirt and oil. 

Upon preparing to graduate, I was informed of the services of Career Gear Houston. I never thought about the attire change my decision to change careers would cause. Needless to say, I was thankful for the referral for an interview suit. I learned my shirt size, 16 36/37! 

My 2nd interview, I landed the job! I was confident and excited to return to Career Gear for my GearUp appointment. My daughter said "Daddy, you sure are fancy now! "

Next time you are watching the weather man, pay close attention to the button stance on his suit jacket. How many buttons does it have? How many are buttoned?

How should you button a jacket? Think sometimes,always,never. Think about it like this:Start with the top button and working your way down: it’s sometimes okay to have the top button buttoned along with the middle one.The middle button should always be buttoned, and you should never button the last button.  Sometimes, always, never.
